2011 Conference Write Up

Well the ITTC is over for another year! And what a day it was, from inspirational speakers and presentations, to the workshops and of course President Mary McAleese joining us for the awards section of the day! We hope that you enjoyed everything just as much as we did.

The day got off to an early start and before long people began arriving to register for the conference. Events in the main hall went got off to a great start and our morning speakers ICS CEO Jim Friars, ICS Skills Professional Development Manager Mary Cleary and Director of Intel Labs Europe Martin Curley went down well.

After a quick coffee break it was back into the hall to listen to Michael Hanley of the Innovation Value Institute address delegates before it was time to welcome President of Ireland Mary McAleese to the conference. The President sat back and enjoyed a short slideshow showing the contribution of ECDL to Ireland before giving a brilliant speech and an enlightened account of the usefulness of ICT skills. ICS CEO Jim Friars and ECDL Foundation CEO Damien O’Sullivan then presented the President with the 500,000th ECDL Skills Card to mark the occasion.

After the presentation of the ICS Skills Best Practice Awards to the Training Centres and Schools we heard from Steve Wheeler of the University of Plymouth before breaking for lunch.

When we came back from lunch we broke into two workshops for the afternoon – Stream One was for Second-level Schools who got to listen to Steve Wheeler again, and ICS Skills’ own Gwen Conlon presented the ICS Grid, a Virtual Learning Environment to delegates.

Delegates in Stream Two enjoyed contributions from Social Media Consultant Krishna De and Sales Training Consultant Sandy Metcalfe.

All in all, the conference was a success and we’ve had some great feedback from you. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Im really looking forward to coming along to the conference again this year. I love having the opportunity to network with other trainers and to hear about the new technologies and training developments. Im particularly interested in hearing more about data prtoection and what I should know as a trainer.
